If you use just Valor Made Real and Gorgon Flail, nothing will get killed by the flair. You would need something that pumped its power, like Edge of the Divinity.

@ Sky8Palefur

If the creatures attacking do not have trample, then their only choice would be to assign all combat damage to the blocking creature (if there is only the one). Also, creatures can have damage dealt to them that is far greater than what is lethal to them.

@LordCeviche: I would imagine that if a creature with Infect attacked and was blocked by Souls of the Faultless (SOTF, for short), you would still have to put -1/-1 counters on SOTF. SOTF's ability would not trigger because the damage dealt to SOTF was 0.

Anyway, this is an awesome blocker. Almost discourages attacking as effectively as Stuffy Doll. It definitely would be excellent if equipped with something like Ring of Thune (or the black equivalent whose name I can't remember) or Vanguard's Shield to increase its ability to block fatties. Eventually your opponent won't bother to swing with Worldspine Wurm because some moaning ghosts are in the way.

4.5/5

A bit confused as to how damage is traded when Souls of the Faultless blocks.

I'm fairly new to MTG. I played two of these earlier in a W/B Orzhov deck, while my girlfriend dropped Howl of the Night Pack, and Overrun then swung with everything for a 'supposed' win since we both had 5 or so life left.

During my block step, I block two of her now 5/5 (w/ trample) Wolf Tokens, with two Souls of The Faultless.

NOW... does SOTF's ability trigger when I block her two wolves, and bounce back to hit her for 10 damage and the win right there? Or, does that damage/life gain not get counted until AFTER the attack ended, meaning she won the game?

Either way its great card and my favorite wall. Many thanks.

I've groaned too many times when my firend throws an Edge of the Divinity on this guy when he's lacking his Nightsky Mimic.

@AEKblackheart - I'm pretty sure that the ability triggers upon the Souls taking damage, which happens in the damage step. Declare Attackers step, Declare Blockers step, Damage step. The damage & Life gain/loss would happen instantaneously I think. I could be wrong, tho. Might be something to take to the MtG Rules Q&A forum @ community.wizards.com...

@SGLinkmaster - I could be wrong on this, too, but I think when it comes to damage/lifelink/Souls' ability, your Eldrazi only dealt 4 damage to the Souls, that's as big as the Souls are, how could it deal more damage than there is toughness to take it?

I don't know, but that's what I'm think on those things...

Awesome card, one of my fav's.
