As I've said with Blood Moon- I would rather play Ruination in most cases.
As you've been told before Blood Moon's benefit is that people aren't getting to play non-basic lands anymore unless they want the mountain, and now mountain walk is suddenly very appealing. Another thing you probably don't realize is that when you have 1 mountain and need 2-3 but all you have is 2 non-basic lands that tap for color or a different color you can always bloodmoon or use this magus and voila brand new mountains. You also seem to forget ruination effects you too.

Ruination is often more temporary than Blood Moon. Both are good, though.

i dont see why you guys say this ruins mana bases. alls this does is change the card to have the land type mountain, meaning its other abilities are left un changed. the only time this skrews with thier mana is if they run non-basics with land types, the only popular ones i can think of are alpha duals, ravnica duals, cloud post, and urzatron

@KnexWiz

No, its other abilities are NOT left unchanged. If you read the rulings, it says specifically that nonbasics become Mountains that have no other ability besides "T: add Red to your mana pool" just like any old Mountain has. Your manlands are mountains and can't swing. Your fetchlands are mountains and can't search your library.

Moreover, In just about every format outside of standard, the majority of a given deck's land base is formed of nonbasic lands...fetchlands, alpha duals, rav duals, and wastelands especially. If he resolves, this one guy can single-handedly shut down so many decks it's not even funny, and most red aggro decks will prefer to use him over Blood Moon because unlike the enchantment he is a creature and can therefore wield a sword and beat face. I give him five stars; he deserves it.

Heheheh.... there's a Spike in my playgroup who always plays Azorious control with his stupidly expensive deck. He only uses shocklands because he thinks there's no point to using basics. I'm putting this in my Izzet deck and I'm gonna cast it with a counterspell in hand. Bye-bye control! :D

This art is amazing. One of my favorite cards. I've done some alternative art with this guy. Here is the link:
