Urza text is better than both of them, but the core set texts before M10 are juvenile and distinctively not funny, its totally slapstick comedy. Funny red flavor texts are funnily worded or ironic or allusions more like the urza text, "Guess where im gonna plant this!" isnt that interesting at all. I think the elvish saying is wonderful, actually.

I was playing in an M10 draft and I had turn one llanowar elves and turn two rampant growth and my opponent had no creatures (mana screwed =p), so on turn 3 I attacked with llanowar elves and played this guy, and suddenly, my opponent was at 12! Heehee an 8/8 llanowar elves.

I agree that it should be uncommon.
Putting commons together, and coming up with a better result for less mana should mean NO GOLD FOR YOU.
3xgiant growths = +9/+9 for 3.
If it cost 3 mana, THEN it should be a rare. Or if it also had trample.

It's not just the change in flavor text that's weak- the art is pretty lame too. It's like this card suddenly decided it wanted to be taken seriously. I miss the old art of the psychotic elf gardener charging at me with an uprooted tree.

And back in the day, this was worthy of a rare slot. Just more proof of the power creep, I guess.
