This will make some excellent sideboard material.
And just cause it itself can be countered doesn't mean anything. You're opponent's down a counterspell and probably quite a bit of mana for only one green. It will still make it safer to play your other stuff at the very least.
A one cost counter-bait is not that bad.

Autumn's Veil (green) - A defensive counterspell (Hindering Light) when Vines of Vastwood is almost as good.
Combust (red) - Deathmark always works for 1‚ this USUALLY works for 2.
Deathmark (black) - A one mana mono-Terminate.
Flashfreeze (blue) - Hard Cancel for U less.
Celestial Purge (white) - Strictly better than Iona's Judgement.

D.Counter = 1 or 2
Soft Removal = 2
Removal = 3
Counter = 2 or 3
Exile = 5 or 6

One of my favorite cards of all time. The art, flavor and effect are absolutely perfect.

Automatic 4-of in any green sideboard.

Meh I don't know.. honestly great sable stag was awesome because it was a creature. This is a spell that does nothing against other decks, can be counterspelled itself, and then only works on blue and black.

I imagine seeing things like this...

p1 casts warpriest of thune
p2 casts mana leak
p1 laughs and plays autumn veil
p2 casts spell pierce, also for 1 mana, and stops the autumn veil..
p1 makes frowny face after using up two cards just to get counter spelled.

Also, wotc printed the exact answer to this in blue only a set ago.. mind break trap anyone? It exiles and is free when you're opponent plays extra spells, like idk, autumn's veil for instance.

"Draw a card."

Would not have broken anything in my opinion.
... or perhaps Standard wouldn't like it. Oh well.

It's an okay Sideboard choice as it is right now.
I'd prefer this as a cantrip, but maybe this would make it a too powerful combo ensurance then:
As opposed to Insist or Overmaster, this is an instant afterall, so this will normally cost your opponent at least one card too if you use it correctly.
So this makes it more powerful if you play against the right opponent - but is a dead card if not.

For creatures i still prefer Vines of Vastwood, which will always find use especially since it can be kicked for a strength boost.
