Like so many have said before, the only thing wrong with this as it has already been done and done better. what it needed was to cost {R}{R} and return {R}{R}{R}{R} since in most cases people are only using red mana to pay for this anyway. Or we could have made it a Tribal Instant - Elemental and comboed it with Brighthearth Banneret thus removing the 1 colorless mana in the cost and making it a (situational) Dark Ritual in red. But that might imply that it should have been printed in Lowyn or Morningtide. Or they could have added a clause at the end saying that if you control 2 or fewer lands then it costs {R} rather than {R} + 1 other.

I mean no offense to those in the team that thought this was a good idea, but it could have been done so much better.

People seem to forget the instant speed. The ability to leave two mana open to counter a Mana Leak? In red? Priceless.

Should've added more mana under a certain condition, like Cabal Ritual.

But still, this card isn't bad. Just look at Modern UR Storm.

In the end it's' one mana for one card in hand...
not really useful outside of a storm useage but, storm isn't in standard
and if you're not playing standard then there are much better options,

@skew
Woah would that be a cool card!
So much flavor, R for RRR
we all know how powerful dark ritual is though, so make it hit you for like...
10 and call it Playing with Fire
...
I want it...

So, in Kamigawa, they added the Arcane type to a well-known card, and usually upped the cost or otherwise nerfed it. Then, it would stand to reason that removing the Arcane type would make a card cheaper, right? ... Right?

Shock gains the Arcane type and a Splice ability, and becomes the more-expensive Glacial Ray.
Boomerang gains the Arcane type and becomes a Sorcery instead of an Instant, and is Eye of Nowhere.
Desperate Ritual loses the Arcane type and Splice ability... and costs the same. :(

i agree, this should be R: add RRR to your mana pool, ~ deals 2 damage to you. because as is, this is a worthless card that doesnt generate a large enough boost to be worth it.

some comments seem harsh on this - i think it'll see quite a bit of play in combo decks

This is just insulting. Why give us this over rite of flame or seething song? Or maybe make it cost R plus sac a land, so we don't get a red dark ritual, but it would still be better than this crap.

Would it hurt too much if it was {1} cheaper ? If it has to be worse than dark ritual, let it do one or two damage to you or something, maybe even three damage, but like this... Don't know how much play will this card see. The art is nice, though.

Is everyone forgetting how awesome these cards are for storm decks...? Dragonstorm turn 1 is even more possible with 16 different mana ramps, it's quite possible to blow up with more than 3 ramps, pulling 4 dragons out. This card has great combos, and Desperate Power will be cycling out of extended soon.
