@Pie_Harbringer: Here's how it goes. Fume Spitter has an ability where you sacrifice it as a cost (to create the effect of putting a -1/-1 counter on something). So something that triggers when you sacrifice a permanent (Furnace Celebration, for example) will trigger, and since you paid the cost to activate the ability of the Spitter you get the triggered ability and the activated ability. However, don't confuse that with sacrificing the Spitter as a cost for something else's activated ability. (Culling Dais, for example) In order to get the Spitter's ability to put a counter on something, you need to sacrifice it for solely that purpose.
On that note
@Rikiaz: Sacrificing Fume Spitter to Demon of Death's Gate will not trigger the spitter's ability, so it really isn't that great of a sacrifice.
