Hornet Sting in black.

Come to think of it, I never liked Hornet Sting, either.

Considering this is in the same set as Tormented Soul, I have concluded it was printed for humiliating people. I'd quit magic if I died to this.

ugh. this card is useless in draft, unless you are already running a ton of bloodthirst vamps.. but are you so sure you're going to open more to actually take and maindeck this turd? nope..

All it needed was flashback, than it would be awesome with bloodthirst.

I used this in a draft running bloodthirst, lifelink and stuff like Dark Favor, it was pretty awesome. Not superb but if running Bloodthirst, why the heck not...? Unless you have a better way already in your deck then by all means. :)

It activates bloodthrist in a mono-black deck, it's a little life gain (which is always nice), and it works when they have blockers. Yeah, Tormented Soul is also unblockable, but in a Vampire tribal, I run this instead. I love it especially for my Bloodlord of Vaasgoth because it's cheap AND I keep blockers.

@SirZapdos You're right. The keyword "damage" makes this card meet the conditions for activating bloodthirst, while spells with the keywords "loses life" does not.

Though purely in terms of net life put between you and your opponent, Innistrad block's Bump in the Night is the stronger card, with a difference of three life rather than two.

Funny story, a group of my friends were discussing this card right before a Draft. Everyone thought it was mediocre at best. One of us was still new to the game and loved playing Black, so he drafted this card late maybe 13th pick.

I faced off against him and with Bloodthirst his creatures were big. He had me down to 1 life and the next card he drew was this card.

All I can say is Karma can be a b*tch sometimes.
