I'd call it more of a combat trick than straight removal.

In exchange for a {2} discount from Rebuke, you simply need to be able to block the creature in some way. Combos with Flash Foliage for a pointlessly expensive rebuke that is nonetheless far more amusing.

Yeah this is better then Righteousness in most cases. Exceptions being multi blocking, rare case of surviving a burn spell, and things like Meglonoth

This is definitely a solid 4/4. It's not as versatile as something like Swords To Plowshares since the creature must actually ATTACK you. However, you also wouldn't be giving your opponent life with this card. I wouldn't say it's usually better than Righteousness since you could make a lot of use with the blocking creature's +7/+7. Fling it to cause a lot of damage to your opponent, sacrifice it for life or any other number of things.

It's even better than you think SiamKor... when you declare your blocker, before damage is dealt, the character is considered blocked! So you can destroy it before any damage is dealt (permitting other spells and abilities don't interrupt this)

You better have your deck a little on the 'flying' side. Helps a lot in the blocking business. There's still unblockability, intimidate and fear to deal with though.

Edit: @Jarryftw: heya, thanks! I knew that, that's the normal use I gave the card in single-player. But since I now play multi-player a lot more often, I was just pointing out that the card is flexible enough to let you destroy the attacker after it deals damage, if you so choose (i.e., if it is attacking another player, or if it is being blocked by your Boros Reckoner).

--------

Great in multi-player.

Let's say opponent A attacks opponent B with a 7/7 trampler. Opponent B blocks with a 0/4 wall, taking 3 damage and losing the wall.

You can Smite the 7/7 trampler after the combat damage (before the end of combat), because it is still a "blocked creature."

I currently use this in my Esper deck. Use this with Lingering Souls and then if i have to, flash in Snapcaster Mage to use smite again.
