I've been spoiled with Nighthawk in Limited for so long,
I almost thought this card was a waste of time.
This card is actually pretty damn good in Limited.

If it's CMC was 3 instead of 4, it would probably see more play from me. But that little extra cost can make all the difference.

What Mode is talking about is how a ***atrice is born; it is born of bird parents - typically chicken but not exclusively - that has an egg incubated by a dragon (or frog/snake if you don't tens to believe in such things).
Of course this makes as much sense as centaurs being typed Human Horse, or merfolk being Human Fish, but still, he is correct that the cocatrice is part dragon, part bird
