This slaps Distress senseless. Yeah. You heard me. I'd rather play a {WB} spell turn 2 than a {BB} that isn't Hymn.

Why would you compare Gerrard's Verdict to this... One is modern and another is legacy. That's like comparing the original Mox cards to the modern Mox's...

They each have their own formats which are vastly different. Would you compare Vampiric Tutor to Diabolic Tutor?

Compare it to another modern card like Thoughtseize for a fair evaluation. That seems to be the gold standard in modern right now... However, for an extra mana, you get to exile a card from the game... and no life loss.. Some decks want cards in the graveyard... and If you're facing a Tron deck and he's holding Emrakul, the Aeons Torn, would you rather have played Thoughtseize or Castigate?

Would you compare Time Warp to Time Walk and say Time Warp sucks?

However...since you are comparing cards from totally different formats.... Let's do it anyhow... Getting to hand pick... (see all)

This card is on ChannelFireball's top 8 Orzhov cards list for a reason.

Pretty bada$s flavour text for a modern card! These days the level of writing is more suitable for an episode of NCIS (as in terrible)...

"We have no need for military might. We wield two of the sharpest swords ever forged: Faith in our left hand, Wealth in our right." —Vuliev of the Ghost Council

I can see why they started with faith and ended with wealth.
Although faith in the right hand and wealth in the left hand would have been more fitting I think,
with the sinister hand associated with the dirty money and the dexter hand with the right(eous) and honorful faith.
Although admittedly, I'm not too sure if Orzhov's belief system is just that, but you get my drift.

This card is extremely good. The only thing that keeps it from being the best targeted discard is its higher and more complex mana cost over cards like Thoughtseize and Inquisition of Kozilek.

It doesn't seem to me that much needs to be said about it really. Exile is super good, any nonland is super good as well.

About the comparison of this and Gerrard's Verdict, I personally don't think there is much of a contest. This allows you to see your opponent's hand and get EXACTLY what you want, which unless they are at 1 or 2 cards in hand Verdict allows them to decide what to keep.

I think that a lot of Magic players don't understand the power of looking at your opponent's hand; just try and think of it as "intel" for the battle you are in. Knowing what your opponent can and likely will do is extremely powerful, and while that alone isn't really worth a card and 2 mana this card lets you EXILE any nonland card from their han...
