If only it didn't say opponents it would rock in an illusion deck.

Oh well...

Well, at least it protects itself from sacrifice, if not other forms of removal.

Three words drain this thing of much of it's potential combo juiciness. I'm not sure if that is a good thing or not. I haven't looked to see if he would have had any stupidly broken combos outside standard, so Wizards may have been on the ball with this one (unlike the retardedness that was printing Protean Hulk as is).

Otherwise, just the typical auto-printed rare that WotC makes each set to either grant all your creatures/spells the showcased keyword (Cast Through Time) or to take it away. Not bad, but still only only hurts one aspect of the Eldrazi it was meant to protect against. In that regard, it's worse than Guard Duty except against Emrakul himself since that also takes their extreme power out of the equation. And that is only half a Pacifism which is a poor man's Oblivion Ring (which WILL hit Emrakul).

Not trying to be a "Dies to removal" idiot, but h... (see all)

The bad part is that it only works reactively, so you can't combo it with your own stuff like Razia's Purification.

Interesting hatebear. Many classic monoblack decks. . . and Cruel Ultimatum usually demand an opponent to sacrifice. There's less narrow hatebears out there, sure, and recursion is not difficult to achieve but it's a GREEN hatebear. . . having 1 in the sideboard is useful enough with Green Sun's Zenith. I actually like a lot of these RotE rares. They make sense.

An excellent card; my EDH Uril, the Miststalker deck loves him so much; limits opponents' options so much.

I have a jund "cheat fatties into play deck" with Elvish Piper, Quicksilver Amulet, and Triassic Egg, among others, and I also play a Thrun the Last Troll aggro deck. I picked this card up as soon as I read about it - in EDH, it's phenomenal, especially against the one annoying teenager in my meta that loves to play Death Cloud when he starts to lose. The look on his face when I instant-speed dropped this into play when he tried to wipe the board was priceless.
