Undying made the card, but I'll be damned if this doesn't deserve a rating above 4. This thing rocks in mono green aggro. It puts pressure on the opponent while still being able to block on their turn, it hits like a truck and even has trample to boot, should your opponent try chump-blocking it. And if that's not enough, it sits through board sweepers and other kinds of removal and comes back to hit the opponent for 6.

Not a spectacular card, but sturdy as a rock and the most appealing green 5-drop I've seen for a long time.
4.5/5

All of those keywords go perfectly with Quietus Spike, turning this guy into a 2-turn clock while still being able to block and kill anything, only to come back stronger if it dies. If that doesn't do the trick, Vines of Vastwood solves most of your problems. If they have an 8/9 blocker with first strike or a Final Judgment in hand, not much could have saved you anyway.

Okay, seriously: this guy's a five-drop with 5 power and 3 abilities.... how is this rated so poorly?! Currently running one in a Uril the MIststalker EDH deck, and I adore it.

Kind of like Protean Hydra. Looks awesome at first. Then you realize how hard it is to play, and that wizards secretly hate green. Then you realize if you can repetitively remove +1/+1 counters, is awesome.

You can birthing pod into hex parasite and remove his +1/+1 counter?

A mythic with no unique abilities? Boo. Still pretty powerful though.

No mention of how horribly degenerate this thing is with Ghave, Guru of Spores? Just think, free sac outlet plus Ghave plus this guy equals triggering the sac outlet's ability AND getting a free Saproling for 1.
Imagine Vish Kal (who even comes in Ghavey's precon), -5/-5 to any target plus a 1/1 dude for 1, as many times as you can pay.
Vish Kal too expensive? Try Carrion Feeder. Perma-shade pump for 1 instead of temp pump for Black, plus all the chump blockers you'll need.
Nantuko Husk trades the permanence for +2/+2 or +4/+4 instead of +1/+1. The turn after you play Ghave, that means that you'll be swinging for 19 (Ghave and the Husk), 31 if you sac the Saprolings. The 'Pede itself hasn't even attacked yet.
"What if I don't draw any sac outlets?", I hear you wail. Well, Ghave is one too, don't forget. He just costs a bit. With this in mind, you now have "2: Put a +1/+1 counter on target creature and put a 1/1 Sap... (see all)

It's really too bad about the triple green cost.
