@Dromak: This guy lets you draw cards on your opponent's turn. That's twice as many shots at Miracle.

So what is this, Avengers in the Park?

Dost Father know thou wearest his armor?
(I know Crosis's Attendant looks the part more, but those abilities are just perfect)

"This guy is a Miracle engine. He helps you draw at the end of your opponent's turn to try and cast them and he pitches them for high damage to creatures if you don't get to miracle them. "

Miracle only works if it's the first card drawn each turn. This guy would be so great otherwise.

This guy sucks. This is another example of how close Wizards came to making good card. There are just soooo many small changes they could have made that would have put this guy into competitive play. Maybe...2/4? Make it so his abilities do not require him to tap...yet are only useable once per turn perhaps? Or casting cost? How about RRUU making him 4 mana but more of a color committment. At 5 mana he sucks - he was almost there but instead he will only be in middle of the road decks. Talking about commander or sealed, yeah yeah I get it, but when you look at him he doesn;t feel like he was built to be a commander card. This card as a rare is a total miss.

Somehow, through sheer luck and lots of Searing Spears, I managed to stabilise against my friend's Gruul deck. He only had a few Disciple Of The Old Ways out and I had this guy.

I use his first ability, get Guttersnipe and Nivix Cyclops. Play them. He had wasted his Ground Assault on a Augur Of Bolas earlier.

Next turn, use ability again, cast Thoughtflare, discard Artful Dodge, flahsback onto the Cyclops. Proceed to dump entire hand consisting of miscellaneous 1 CMC spells out.

I brought him from 20 life to 0 thanks to this guy digging for all my combo pieces.

Tl;dr, Izzet can pull off some stupid shit. Wouldn't mind an extra toughness, 1 less CMC or haste on him, though for the last one we have Fervor :P

I love this card. It's the kind of card a new player can look at and fall in love with the discard ability, then when they finally learn how to play, love the card because of the first ability and still have the card be good! (in slower casual metas/multiplayer).

I had this kind of experience with drogskol reaver. When i first started playing magic, I got an M13 starter kit, and inside was a drogskol reaver in the Dark Ascension pack, which I thought was crazy as a 3/5 double strike flying lifelink. I also managed some good spirits such as drogskol captain, so I made a spirit tribal as my first deck. Now, after having learned the game and understanding what sorts of abilities are really powerful, I appreciate its ability to draw a ton of cards and still use it in casual decks.

I think WOTC needs to make more cards like this. Cards that look awesome to a new player for one reason, but actually ARE good, even if not in a competitive format, for different reasons.
