I don't understand... he's only a 2/2. Sure, his attacking angel may last one turn and then I can chump block him with and 2/2

Saint Traft + Spirit Mantle + Parallel Lives + Intangible Virtue = Swinging for 3 unblockable and 10 flying every turn.
Not good enough? Sundial of the Infinite.
Makes for a very fun casual Bant tokens deck.

It might've been better if his cmc got upped and when he came into play you just get a 4/4 angel. It seems a little weird that the angel doesn't appear when he's blocking.

Advent of the Wurm isn't powercreep. This is.

Broken, really? I mean the guy is good, but I think the term "broken" in the realm of Magic should be reserved for the Ancestral Recalls and Time Walks...

@flipsyalec I respect your argument for Geist's strength in Standard relative to its removal, but still think you really mean to say it's "a powerhouse" or "a multi-format all-star" rather than straight "broken." After all, the geest of saint beats basically fights fair on the ground, albeit stingily with Hexproof. The current format has proven itself deep enough that homeboy isn't of metagame warping power (the era of U/W Delver notwithstanding), even in decks such as Bant Hexproof that exploit him to his fullest.

Too much degeneracy exists in Magic for me to lump into the category of "straight broken" a 2/2 whose real strength is dependent on his turning sideways, and, moreover one who has not warped its current standard environment around him.

So many people complaining about this card. What a joke. A 2/2 in U/W for 3cmc, he usually isn't coming out until turn 3 and by then , there are usually a lot bigger creatures/threats on the board that can block this guy... Not too mention the number of spells available that target "each" creature...

In Standard, he was a great card, now that he has rotated out and into Modern, he is much less of a powerhouse. Please stop the complaining... Geist is good, but he's not that good..If you can't find any way to deal with a 2/2 hexproof in modern, you need to quit playing modern.

4/5 Stars. Very solid card but far from being "broken" or "overpowered". See Dark Confidant or Tarmagoyf for really powerful cards. With Lightning Greaves and Swiftfoot Boots available, any creature can have hexproof or shroud.. Both of those pieces of equipment hit the board before Geist does. There are tons of 3 drop creature... (see all)

Ladies and gentlemen, the bare minimum level of skill needed to play this card:

"Hurr durr, I'll enchant it and kill you."

This card is a mistake. He easily hits the board on turn 2 with birds of paradise, and he dodges spell snare. Its too early at this point for a board sweeper, and then turn 3 you remove whatever blocker they have and pound them for 6 damage. Then you can proceed to bounce/remove any threat and hold your mana to counter any sweepers.

.5/5 for being unbalanced.

This=half of competitive limited

Fighting this=the other half.

Exaggeration? Only slightly.

Kinda wish I had a plumeveil right now.

@sanctuary cat, yes the copy will remain, the original is exiled. with a turn four rootborn defenses geist will live to generate again , and youll get a solid angel, swinging for ten (eight flying two ground) on turn five (four if ramped). Geist populate is an amazing deck that doesn't quite exist yet to my knowledge, but certainly has potential. Most people opt for a direct removal of threats instead.
