Awesome card, and I love the new artwork. Still dies to Doom Blade, though.

Also, check out the new ruling. If I can figure out a way to get vanguards, planes, and phenomena into my graveyard, I'll have broken this card. Oohhh, can I kill my own Hero's Path cards to make it even bigger? Take that, hydra! "My 'goyf goes to 11!"

I'm not saying it's a bad card, it's very good. But$140 for a card that really does nothing is I mean...

I get that 2 mana late game for a 4/5 or a 5/6 is pure value and all but voice of resurgence is $40.

Still I'm gonna say 4.5/5

Oh that poor Great Sable Stag.

Like others have said, he's best with fetchlands and hand disruption. Fetchland -> Thoughtsieze -> a 3/4 minimum turn 2 is insane.

Broken mana cost, should have been 2GG like the original Lhurgoyf.
Sure it can't get that extremly big as a Lhurgoyf lategame in a multiplayer game but it gets quite big way faster. In a fitting deck it's usually a 5/6 for 2 mana. Totally overpowered! With that it made a lot of creatures obsolete in Legacy and the format a lot faster.

The card is absolutely unreal in modern. Turn one fetch into inquisition of kozilek or thoughtseize, discard any non-sorcery, and turn two you have a 3/4 on the board and it will only grow in the coming turns. The fastest beater for a mid range deck in modern.

This card is not overrated.. it's the biggest, cheapest creature in Magic. There are no replacements for it. What are you going to replace it with that's equally cheap and splashable and is the same size? The Jund replacements for it such as Putrid Leech in budget don't even come close. People splash green in decks that barely support green just to deal with other Tarmogoyfs in both modern and legacy.

For tournies:
This is the beatstick to which all other beatsticks get compared to.
This is the one that your deck *Has* to have an answer for and *has* to be able to out pace.

I like having a couple Bojuka Bogs for things like Dredge; but hurting Goyf and KotR helps a bit as well.

I honestly feel the flavor text somewhat references formats. MM is intended to grow Modern; because it needs to compete with Legacy for them to keep it around.

To be honest, I think ol' tarmy should be banned, or at least restricted. =/
