This looks like it can be a secondary finisher in a Blood Seeker/Suture Priest deck I'm building.
6 turn: cast Alliance of Arms (after having 2-3 of either BS or SP on the field)
7 turn: cast this, targeting all their soldiers. Cast Curse of Death's Hold
Doesn't really beat out having the curse out earlier, since they'd have a chance to attack with all the soldiers first. Intangible Virtue would prevent that though. Still, this is all assuming the opponents can survive after AoA is cast in the first place. Stranger things have happened..

Cauldron of Souls is why this card is ratted so low there is no point in it bing low mana coast big battles and cards like day of judgment tend not to happen before the 5 turn so Cauldron of Souls 5 mana coast is not a problem.

Am I right in saying this is a pretty sweet anti-Wrath card, especially for Melira combo decks?

I friggin' love this card, both on paper and in practice. On paper, you can save your entire board from a wrath effect and troll the hell out of your opponent. In practice, I used this in my Karador EDH deck with Solemn Simulacrum and Altar's Reap to reap serious value off of sacking one creature. It went like this:
1. During the end of the turn of the guy before me, cast this targeting Sad Robot , giving it persist.
2. Cast Altar's Reap sacking Sad Robot, drawing a card, searching for a basic after he persisted back, and then drawing two more cards.
3. Draw for turn. Somewhere in the middle of all this card draw, I drew into Skullclamp.
4. Play Skullclamp and hook it up to my now 1/1 Sad Robot. Draw three more cards.
There's so much this card and its big brother Cauldron of Souls can do in a deck like mine. Use it on Sylvan Primordial and then sac Primordial to Great... (see all)
