Thanks for being patient, life gain decks. Here's your new win condition.

A really fair and balanced Mythic. It doesn't let you win too easily, but it's there, it's a decent damagesink, and the win condition is great. Overall, one of the better executed Mythics.

It's actually completely balanced in commander. Unless your deck is really dedicated to keeping him alive, one of your (often) many opponents will likely kill it on sight.
Awesome in my Orzhov 4.5/5

I've lost count of how many games I've won with this creature. I will say this is a balanced mythic. I think what a lot haters fail to realize is this creature still has to make it to the being of the controllers next upkeep.

I don't see a problem with this being mythic. It has a "you win the game" ability, and those don't come around every day. If you want to complain about a mythic, complain about Lotus Cobra. Repeat after me, Wizards: A 2-mana 2/1 with a technically great but non-flashy ability IS NOT MYTHIC. That is why you make RARES. Remember?
EDIT: Yes, Andleck, since your opponent has Platinum Angel out, you won't be able to win with the Sovereign's ability. If two cards conradict each other, the negative one wins out. (If one card says creatures with Defender can attack as though they didn't have Defender and another says creatures can't attack, the "can't" effect is applied.)

The best use for this card that I have found is as the third win condition in my White-Black Sanguine Bond Deck. Between him, a Baneslayer Angel, and numerous copies of Child of the Night, I'm able to produce plenty of pain, and gain lots of life. I've also found that this works well in the mirror match, since the headstart in life makes it easy to get to 40

Spashing white for your beast tribal deck which includes Ravenous Baloth just got a whole lot more awesome.

Awesome in Zendikar Block Con along with Celestial Mantle, but it's still good outside of it in any life gain deck.

How do we make life gain more viable in duels without printing life gain cards efficient enough to completely break free for all? This guy. It's just an overall awesome card. A very reliable and fairly priced creature attached to a better Test of Endurance is great.
