The value of wolfbriar is the amount of power you can put into play in one turn, it never beats other token producers who can continue to make tokens (creakwood, emeria angel, etc) because you have to have the mana to actually pay for those extra tokens. In the same way this card is not an aggro card either, it needs to be played when you have 5 - 6 mana or to set up for an overrun/eldrazi monument situation. Even though it combos nicely with several wolf oriented cards, most people aren't running master of the wild hunt, but could see wren's run packmaster going with this card. The one downside might be that its pure power and nothing else, it has no special abilities, so have to hope your opponent doesn't play a card like kazuul, day of judgement, earthquake, molten disaster, lavalanche, or a chain reaction in response.

Reminds me on verdeloth the ancient.
Reasons to play this over verdeloth:
- slightly more efficient in matters of p/t for cmc
- tokens stay 2/2 even if this guy leaves play
- ain't legendary
Reasons to play verdeloth:
- buffs tokens created by other cards
- buffs treefolks as well
- the tokens it creates have a more important creature type (since there are far mor cards caring about saprolings than about wolves)
So... in a deck that has to do with treefolks or saprolings play verdeloth, and in other decks play this dude. Or none of them. :P Or both.

The four for a 4/4 is already on par, but the fact that each 2/2 only costs G is nothing short of ridiculous.
Best X-for-1 creature in years, and another fun tool for Wolf token decks.
Don't think this will replace Master of the Wild Hunt in any Eldrazi Monument decks though; they run him for removal as well as token generation, and this guy costs way too much for serious competitive play.

I like how the foil for the RG worldwake intro deck works so well with the RG M11 foil.
turn 1
forest
arbor elf/llanowar elves/birds of paridise/ noble hiearch
turn 2
forest
greenweaver/cultivate/Growth spasm
turn 3
forest
wolfbriar kick for 3
turn 4
ovverun for 22-26
overwhelm for 26-31
the problem here is that you can't consitently draw wolfbriar as you only draw 10 out of sixty cards by turn 4 and I can't find a substitute for briar. You end up drawing all mana excell or all endgame half of the time even with the right ratios of cards.

This plus Omnath, Locus of Mana is deadly. After a few turns with Omnath on the battlefield, and then playing this, you get 30 wolves.
