Put one in each of my mono edh decks. worth trying out, and bouncing lands isn't a terrible deal. put 2 tapped one's back and play a land assuming you didn't drop one for the turn.

This is a card that you really cannot criticize until you play with it. It ends up costing no mana and maybe even helping your mana base on the turn it is cast:
If you have 4 Forests:
Tap for {G}{G}{G}{G}, cast Khalni Gem.
Return two tapped forests to hand. In a landfall deck, with a card like Oracle of Mul Daya or Lotus Cobra play one or two of the Forests again. Retap the Forests for {G}{G} Then, tap the Khalni Gem for {U}{U}.

And no, this is not a mediocre Thran Dynamo - it is a more specialized card that, in the right deck, can be more powerful than it. Comments like that are stupid because they fail to acknowledge the strategy and fun inherent in playing MTG. At... (see all)

I had a real fun deck combining this with Training Grounds and Filigree Sages. It was glorious infinite mana that wasn't hard to set up.

with 3x etherium sculptor, this becomes really cool.
2 lands, cast this, one mana in pool. return the tapped lands, one back (if you havent played one this turn), this taps for 2 more.
not really playable combo, but fun to think about.
this is great in commander with EtB lands & landfall.
