think this is more useful for other cards adding effects with 1 extra silver on board than it receiving the effect due to being only 1/1. not useful outside of a sliver deck, however. 3/5..

Probably one of the most overrated cards on gatherer imo. Just because it's a sliver doesn't make it a 4/5. I mean think about it, instead of this you could have another sliver that actually does something in your deck. And if you're sideboarding this in against slivers, that's a slightly better use I guess, but there are better options. Like any boardwipe ever. Waste of a card, I think. 2.5/5 only because it is a one drop 1/1 in any color.

I think sweepers are meant to be used against slivers, as they are the epitome of overextension.

Having a sliver on your first turn is a big deal. When you drop your gemhide on T2 this guy will be untapped and you can play a second one with the mana. By T3 you have 6 mana available to drop just about any other sliver.
