They couldnt reprint Doubling Season without it being absolutely ridiculous, so they gave us half of it on a 4/4 for four cmc. Im completely fine with this tbh. Probably goes the best with the guild mechanic out of all the guild leaders in Return To Ravnica, and maybe even Gatecrash, combos well with evolve, lotleth troll is his best friend and he is currently in a long term relationship with master biomancer. Many shenanigans have ensued when i scavenged 20 1/1 counters onto nighthawk just by having two of him on the field. Succeptible to removal and is rather weak without setup, however the payoff is well worth it if you can pull it off.
Not super amazeballs but still pretty bloody good. 4/5

This thing is a monster of a card. The Monstrous mechanic gets downright brutal with this thing.

I think the reason Scavenge mechanics tend to be a little overcosted is because they are made anticipating this guy to be in play at the same time. Paying six mana for ten +1/+1 counters is pretty good (as per Deadbridge Goliath). It also pushes people towards copies of Varolz, the Scar-Striped, which would make that 4 mana for ten +1/+1s.
I am definitely running this is a Simic/Golgari deck while in Standard, the goal is to keep Corpsejack Menace alive (a little countermagic?) and get good deals out of Scavenge. Nifty little plays, like draw two cards for 0 by scavenging a Slitherhead onto a Fathom Mage with Corpsejack Menace in play.

no wait, i just realised how stupid that was. oops. anyway, this thing with Varolz, the Scar-Striped and Death's Shadow is pretty insane.

Turn 4 this followed by a Vastwood Hydra on turn 5. The hydra gets double the counters when it enters the battlefield. Oh no it died? No worries, now you get to double the counters on the hydra AGAIN to redistribute them among any amount of creatures you like.

This is a ridiculous card and I love it. Coupled with Mistcutter Hydra, Wild Beastmaster and a few scavenge cards thrown in for good measure, it just gets insane.
Does this stack with Kalonian Hydra's doubling the number of +1/+1 counters ability? Since it doesn't specifically say that you're 'adding' the counters.

Nothing better than dropping huge hydra's on the board for 1/2 price

With the GW Ajani, this guy plus Sage of Hours means infinite turns… in standard…
