The only real reason these are broken is fetchlands, really. Otherwise the basic land types on them would usually be a drawback. But with fetches, its insane- a fetch can get you any color of mana you need on your first turn. And that's why Stifle is played outside of Dreadnought decks...

An excellent card, in a U/W control deck you can run Safewright Quest and fetch this on turn on using your W mana. Even better if you use in conjunction with Farseek.
