EDH makes this much more useful seeing as how that format has a lack of counterspells. Also, I like art

As Reflection_Pool and MattLynn mentioned, it's pretty good in EDH, where large mana costs abound. Makes decent protection for your creatures or combo pieces, as most removal/disruption spells have lower CMC than the things they want to remove/disrupt.
