@DarthParallax: I disagree. He isn't so much stupid as he is just exceedingly arrogant and uncaring. After all, he was never in any real danger, as long as he had That Which Was Taken, none of the spirits would dare to attack him. He isn't a nice guy at all, but I saw his plan as more of a calculated, sociopathic one then a stupid one.
@Whitewizard42: I can't speak for everyone, but for me, Avacyn will never completely overshadow this guy because: 1) Konda is one mana cheaper, 2) Konda has more supported creature types, 3) Konda wears a Stamp on his head and fights with a cricket bat. 4) I actually own a copy of Konda.

The fact that the main villain is white is probably the most awesome thing about Kamigawa. We get far too few evil white (Elesh Norn is the only one I can think of off the top of my head. Well, and the Orzhov guild, but they're black too), just as we get too few black or red heroes (especially intelligent red. Red is too often portrayed as the stupid colour).

This old man is stronger in combat than any of the Titans, most dragons, all angels, and even gives Stormtide Leviathan a good beating
Though without combat the old man is frustated and is only a 3/3 vulnerable to infect and -X/-X spells
4.5 if only his toughness was at least 4 he would be 5/5 for casual
Edit: I do know that, I am just talking about the context of the cards 'strength', when is the last time you see an old man being as strong as a large sea creature?

Rips enemy creatures to pieces whether on the offensive or the defensive, and indestructible and Vigilance go deliciously well together. Sure, lots of specific cards exist that kill him oh so easily, but the same can be said about most good cards. In a straight out slugfest he's a real beast.
Besides, who doesn't want to beat the ever loving bejingles out of someone with an old man?

If there are multiple combat phases (such as through Hellkite Charger's ability) in one turn and this guy is blocked in both of them, since his +5/+5 bonus hasn't dissipated, wouldn't he become 13/13? Just curious.
Also, 3/3 with Bushido 5 would be worth at least 5 mana, and adding on vigilance would be worth at least another 2. Just think of the indestructibility as an added bonus. You get to attack with an 8/8 creature every turn and still keep an indestructible wall in defense. And that's not even taking into account all the samurai tribals available in this expansion. What's not to like?

no, it's just +5/+5 if blocking or blocked, not +5/+5 for each creature, bushido is not rampage.

This guy is about to be so very, very obsoleted by Avacyn, Angel of Hope. And he deserves it, for starting the whole physical world/spirit world war.

Last Gasp for 2 mana take him down. From the same block, Kagemaro, First to Suffer and his clutch would do the trick.
That being said, I like a massive indestructible blocker.

Oh, I get it. He targeted himself with That Which was Taken so he's indstructible.
