The more tokens you have the less it can cost and the more you gain. Plus four toughness make sure it sticks around for a while.

Tap a few summon-sickened saprolings and the cost lowers to something far more palatable. Not playing green? Soldiers or Spirits may better suit your strategy, as well as tap to cover the white mana cost concerns. Convoke is a powerful keyword and this card plays into it solidly, even if not dramatically so. For a card that shows convoke at its finest, look to the self supporting sprout swarm.
