I like cards that blend types together. I would usually use Karn, Silver Golem or the like on my opponents' Moxen, but this still has uses. Animate Artifact also might help make some of the Phyrexian "ETB does X/does nothing/ETG does X" artifacts even better (though I usually use Kuldotha Rebirth, I can now do something in MUC).

This was used in many combos where you get to use the artifact again and again. Before Paralyze was neutered one of the best combos were Urzatron + one extra Urza's land + animated and paralyzed Candelabra of Tawnos + Rocket Launcher.

Urzatron is: Urza's Mine + Urza's Power Plant + Urza's Tower.

Aaron's Random Card Comment of the Day #2, 9/28/10

Just looking at this card brings back a whole bunch of memories; I started playing Magic during the Revised era.

Yes, the white border is ugly, and the washed-out printing of Revised cards stands out like a sore thumb. Yes, that template is hilarious by modern standards. No, this card is not worth four mana. No, Douglas Shuler cannot claim the same level of technical mastery that today’s crop of artists can. But this card--along with many of its brethren--is etched into my brain. It is one of the seeds that the tree that is my love of Magic grew out of.

Granted, most of its familiarity comes from opening it in countless boosters, sorting it into endless piles in the neverending quest to organize my collection, or flipping past it in boxes and binders looking for more awesome blue Revised uncommons like Control Magic, Counterspell, or ... (see all)

Better than it first appears, since it can be used to make one of your opponent's prized artifacts a target for various shennanigans.

If you're desperate for offense, you could always animate something that isn't really doing much for you anymore. In a mono-colored deck, it could also provide a pinch hit defense from the likes of Terror.

Not amazing, but it has some creative uses. Any player from the old days will fondly remember this and Aladdin's Lamp as being a prized combo ;)

The Oracle text hurts my brain a bit. I understand what it means, but it just feels weird. "As long as enchanted artifact isn't a creature, it's a creature." What?

I loved the rules text templating (or lack thereof) from those days. It felt natural back then, but by today's standards, the rules text is so quaint. :)

My favorite combo from those early, wild days: Chaos Orb-> Animate Artifact-> Dance of Many. Then use a blanket as your orb token.

but.... with that rules text, won't it stop being a creature the moment it becomes a creature? oO
It's like an endless loop. a paradox.
