PEOPLE THIS CARD IS BRILLIANT, IT'S AN ENCHANTEMENT SO IT DOESN'T DIE TO REMOVAL. ALL YOU HAVE TO DO IS BUILD AN AGRRO DECK WITH NOTHING BIGGER THAN A THREE DROP. THIS CAN AND IS BEING PLAYED IN STANDARD AND NOT JUST BY CASUAL DECKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Life for card advantage is usually a good trade, and you could run it with a lot of lifegain. Black is a great color for lifegain, and even more so if you run White/Black. And it doesn't work with Personal Sanctuary. Why do people ever mistake "life loss" for "damage"?

That this card is so much lower rated than dark confidant shows how critical card/tempo advantage is before t3.
@Reapersaurus -- you're probably also mystified by why Mind Twist costs $3-$4 dollars and Mind Shatter tends to be about $0.75.

The reason this isn't strictly worse than phyrexian arena is because you don't lose any life when you reveal a land or 0-drop. Its (more expensive) bob the enchantment, what's not to love?

GCAcul's got the right idea; this is utterly outclassed by Phyrexian Arena. If you're using shenanigans to stack your topdeck with land, well, you could be using those shenanigan card slots more effectively.
reapersaurus doesn't really have an answer to that, but nice rant about how we're all mindless slave followers of tournament pros that we've never met or talked to or thought about.

I get it! He's reading two pages at once! That's why you draw two cards at once!

I don't know about this card. Bob gives you the effect a turn earlier and beats people up, on top of being the only creature (until just recently with blood scrivener) to have repeatable card draw that's splashable on a 2-drop.
I get that this is splashable and cheap, but I'd really take arena over this except under circumstances where the other color has worse card draw; which if you do it right, is rare. (Blue does well, green can do well, white does well on cantrips now-a-days plus has land tutoring, which is kinda good. Red does okay on filtering.)
I think that this guy really suits casual, but that's where it'd be less likely to see play due to it's hefty drawback for those kinds of decks.

This card obviously works well in a fast, low cost black deck, but the art screams at me to put this in my rather high cost midrange demon-faustus deck. I don't really like the idea of drawing a lord of the pit and losing 7 life on turn 4.
It also gives me reason to ask why Dark Confidant is a 50 dollar card and this is 25 cents. Now, if Dark Confidant had Bloodgift Demon's static ability, I might see why...
