It's funny how the art depicts exactly for what it will be used: Killing 1/1 Goblin tokens from Cards like Kuldotha Rebirth.
The fact that the creatures get real -1/-1 counter instead of "until end of turn -1/-1" also means it's a heavy anti-boros card. Many of Boros creatures can get big with landfall but are just 1/1 at the end of day which means their death with a single -1/-1 counter.

How is this white? I guess it's limited to just attacking creatures, but I don't see how this is in any other way fitting into White's slice of the pie.

Agreed. Between infect and all these recent "weenie wipes" I could almost get the impression Wizards is not big on aggro right now. Maybe it was in response to Zendikar?
