I'm liking the flavor of a Red mage carrying around books just to burn them in a stack of Faithless Looting just to use the red flashback.

Great intersection between the colours to design this card out of. The only thing is, it doesn't synergise with Burning Vengeance as much as it might seem, because you're presumably playing with a whole lot of flashback cards which have a lot more value in the graveyard than normal, reducing the value of this card. Tho its flashback will still trigger it and Secrets of the Dead.
Edit - this card is quite similar to Recoup; probably better becuase you can recur the cards and play them seperately, rather than needing all the mana at once.

This to return my Blessings of Nature (used with miracle) back to my hand after I used it to boost my chrs using Wild Defiance. only to play Blessings again later on.. I could see ppl crying at the beat down that would draw. You could even use the alchemist refuge to make your blessings, or mystic retrieval into flash, on your opponents turn! very sweet card.. Just need to build a deck that can make use of it.

I can see this card doing well in an Izzet deck with the guild's "instant/sorcery matters" theme, better than Izzet Chronarch or Nucklavee, even. Not only can it potentially recover an instant or sorcery card twice, it's a sorcery itself.
