He's mostly good as ability storage for my Quicksilver Gargantuan.

Banding is most useful when blocking, as the blocker assigns damage. So outgunning turn one monsters aren't what this dude does. Instead, Band three of these guys together and you've got a 3/3 flying first striker that can assign its blocking damage however it wants, assuming anything gets through the first strike.
I like the Kjeldoran Skycaptain better though.

So, unless I am mistaken, if you swung with this guy + Phyrexian Walker in a band, they could block the walker with the ground troops, but not the bird, and effectively stop both of them?
But your the one making the calls on how to attack, and you dont have to band during that attack. And you could band with an ornithoper to get a flying band with 2 extra toughness.
Also you could block with the bird, and Phyrexian Walker in a band. And stop there 2/2 flyer without taking damage.

Too pricey for his very limited toughness. The Banding/First strike isn't bad, but by the time he hits the table, there are usually tougher guys in his way. It is too bad, because I love the artwork on these guys.

@gaussgoat, i agree. the artwork is totally awesome and his abilities were pretty mean for that time period as well. however, this guy gets totally hammered by anything that a black deck would play on its first turn. while playing mono white, there was no way you could get this guy out 1st turn without moxes, etc. bumout city.

You're quite right. Flying is overrated on banding firststrikers. Pikemen were cheaper and as good on attack.
