Darth, sometimes (ok most times) I have no clue what you are trying to say.....
Comet storm is clearly better than fireball in that it doesnt have to split X damage equally between Y targets. Then again its a mythic and this is uncommon, but still. Comet storm is undeniably better than fireball. I'd like to see your argument otherwise. Lets do some math:
Lets say 5 5/5's and 1 opponent. You want to kill the 5/5s and deal dmg to opponent:
With comet storm it would be 5 for X, 2R, and 5 to kick it for 5 extra targets. Total 12 mana, for 30 damage done.
With Fireball, it would be 5 mana for the "kicker", only 1 R, but since the damage is split evenly you'd need X to be 30. Total 36 mana.
Granted that is an extreme example, but still it clealy illustrates the differnce between the two spells in their power level.

I like how, because it's an {X}{R} spell, it has nearly as much potential as every other {X}{R} spell, but when you pick this over Comet Storm, you can claim you are sacrificing a lot of power to be the Cool Guy who plays so-called "Classics"- when, actually, an X is still an X and I'm not sold that this is DISTINCTLY weaker than Comet Storm or Shivan Meteor. When it goes boom for X, it's going to go boom for X, and that's going to be a big threat to someone even if it's the 'old, decrepit Alpha version'. The only things that really matter to me about Red Bombs are:
1) is it a Permanent-Destroyer, or a Damage Dealer?
2) Can it Hit Players if it's Damage?
3) Is it Counterable or not?
that flowchart will show that rather a lot of cards are virtually equivalent to each other, and that same flowchart will just about produce the 1-drop 3 damagers that are the stars of 2-player RDW decks.
'don't mind me, I'm just a weeeeaak,... (see all)

You're forgetting the scenario where you only need to do X to someone's face. Why do you need to kill creatures if you're ending the game?
Winner: Fireball.
(Honestly, Comet Storm's best feature is that it's instant).
