One of the better 1/1s for 1. Solid in a vacuum, but if you add proliferate, graft, and other counter wizardry, this can be the hardest-working one-drop in a deck.

I prefer this to Simic Initiate, early thay both serve the same purpose, and though it's harder to get the counter off of the Drone, you can always put it where it will be the most useful later in the game, plus the Spike ability works much better with Doubling Season than graft does.

Along with the well known Doubling Season, combo it's ability with a well timed Giant Growth, or other toughness increasing ability, and place the counter on itself. Then you have unlimited +1/+1 counters to go around.

@ Bastian: I don't get how this is supposed to work. Unless helped by doubling season or a similiar card, the drone can't generate new counters. The ability to put a counter on something requires, as a cost, a counter to be removed from the drone. If there is no counter to remove, you can't play the ability.

@majinara: If you have doubling season in play, he has two counters on him. So you remove one to add two, with a net gain of one counter every time you use his ability. If he only has one counter on him, you can use something like Giant Growth to make sure he doesn't instantly die when you remove the counter. Granted, he'll die at the end of the turn unless you manage to give him a more permanent +1/+1.
