Judging from the art, it seems strange that this one doesn't have trample.
Compare it to a war elephant and tell me I'm wrong ;)

yeah now that ROE is out, you dont have to worry about removal as much with totem armor since TA auras occupy 2/3 colors of naya/godsire

Dies to removal... if you have any left after shooting down Wooly Thoctar and all the other nasties that are barrelling at you. That's the problem with this guy, he's in decks that have a lot of other threats...

One of the best play with this I've seen used Shifty Doppelganger to get it out for cheap, then it was tapped to get a permanent 8/8 beast out. My jaw was on the floor.

need something to do with all your godsire tokens?

how about a talk with my friend Brion Stoutarm, MVP pitcher for Lorwyn and powerful enough to pick up even a godsire spawn and toss it at an opponent hard, oh and dont forget Brion Stoutarm has lifelink, yes that will be a giant beast landing on your head and I will gain 8 life, thank you

also Brion fits right into the mana, 2RW, and is 1 short of Naya's golden standard (5 power)

Well, think about it. Big creatures that dont trample, flavor wise thats because they focus all the attention on the little bugger blocking it. Smashing it to bits and playing with its food. Also they might be very slow moving too.

So I was thinking: in horse breeding (and I assume this applies to other types of breeding too) the male parent is called the sire and the female is called the dam. This would mean that, if the Godsire in fact has a mate, it would be called...

Well played, Wizards. Well played. :-)

Put in a deck with some proper mana acceleration, Hamletback Goliath turn 4, this turn 5. As has been said, also works fantastically well with Brion Stoutarm and Doubling Season. Actually, seems to work better with cards of its own colours than any of the other 8 mana fatties from Shards... Love it.

Intruder Alarm. Have a {R} open for something like Burst of Speed and you're in business guys.

For some strange reason I prefer Godsire over Hellkite Overlord. Hellkite is a big, fun dragon, the problem is his playability. In all formats he's in, Hellkite Overlord is incredibly vulnerable. I'd rather he had persist than regenerate, but the form of removal he's most vulnerable is exile removal, and that is not cool.

Godsire, while sharing some of the vulnerability to removal with Hellkite Overlord, also produces tokens which are a pest to remove. With Godsire, you're more likely to regain the card advantage you lost if you tutored him out with Behemoth's Herald than the identical situation with Hellkite Overlord.

Also, if you're looking to stomp someone really fast, Bloodthorn Taunter is the format equivalent of Lightning Greaves for fatties. I swear by her in... (see all)
