This card would be awful if not for the haste, and because of it I actually think it's pretty decent, if they don't have a removal and you can swing in for 8 damage even if some of that gets blocked, thats a great way to start a turn, and it at least has regeneration if your opponent does happen to draw a removal. Not that it will help you against terminate or path to exile though. It's also no sphinx of the steel wind.

I run a nice legacy deck that gets H. Overlord out (usually) by the 4th or 5th turn. I use Worldly Tutor or Goblin Recruiter (which I could easily replace with Diabolic Tutor and Boggart Harbinger to make the deck standard) to get Dragon's Herald out fast. Most of the rest of my cards are cards like Manaforge Cinder, Odious Trow, and Wild Cantor, which are multiple colors to make it easier to satisfy D's Herald's sac costs (Manaforge Cinder for example can satisfy either the black or the red sac cost, while also being easy to deploy in a multicolored deck).

Fun deck to run! Hellkite Overlord pwns Prince of Thralls, Godsire, Empyrial Archangel, and Sovereign Sphinx in my personal Oppinion...

Man, not much CAN stand in the way of this thing. What I wouldn't give to find one in a pack. I saw one at a store in a mall near where I live for forty bucks.

2 things: Awesome card, and Crucible of Fire. 11/11 with haste and flying. After ploping this guy just wait for your opponent to scoop.

requires dragon's herald but with it he's amazing. I run 1 in a deck with 2 herald's. he's won me quite a few games and I've never had to hardcast him

With teckinacly an indestructible creature and having the power and toughness =ing 8 having flying trample and haste will devostate those un-knowing of Dragon's Herald so that high cost you would have 2 pay for Hellkite Overlord will be taken down to safacricing a swamp mountain and forest creature so hopefully that will help any of those that have a low mana deck

Very good, but it needs devour like Hellkite Hatchling to be an awesome card (not that it isn't already)!

It seems odd that this isn't listed as being in From The Vault as well as Shards on the Sets tab.
