By far the best creature ever made, there simply is no replacement for such overwhelming raw power for such a cheap and easily splashable mana cost. People saying it shouldnt be worth as much as it is fail to understand that the demand combined with the supply determine price. In other words, Tarmogoyf is so expensive only because the market of serious legacy/modern players are willing to pay that much to have the best chance of winning with the best creature ever printed.

I've noticed that some people seem to think that just because Tarmogoyf can be dealt with and because it doesn't always win the game by itself, it's not that overpowered. The thing that I think people are forgetting is, how powerful should a TWO-DROP be? Although Tarmogoyf doesn't always win the game by itself, since when should a two-drop win the game by itself even a small amount of times? A two drop should pretty much never ever win the game by itself. That is why Umezawa's Jitte is banned. Yes, sometimes the opponent can just use some artifact removal on the jitte, but many other times it will go unanswered and just dominate the whole game. You know a two-drop is overpowered when an excuse that people give to call it balanced is "it doesn't always make you win the game."

"Mike Turin, Future Sight’s lead developer (after taking Garruk out of Future Sight), put (Tarmogoyf) in back in the file from memory. He thought it was a 1G */*+1 because that’s the stats of the original Lhurgoyf.

And that (is) how Tarmogoyf ended up at the cost and stats he did. Mike felt okay with it being aggressively costed because “it was just a dude”." (from Mark Rosewater's tumblr)

Thousands of dollars later, here we are.

Hey Seuss people have a lot to write about this card! The recent comments page looks hilarious.

I'm guessing people have just mentioned this card's power and price, maybe art. Not that much to say there.

Short story shorter, I'll continue to board Threads in case of this. Rating goes without saying

I recognize this is a damn good card, but it's really not my style. I see the suggestion of a Dredge deck, but if you're gonna do that, Why would you limit yourself to a 5-6 power creature? A dredge deck in my hands runs Boneyard worm and a lot of creatures. One time I got an 18/18 out for two mana. I'd rather the cheaper card that could be much more effective, but I can see WHY this thing is so bloody powerful. You don't run this in a deck that beats face early, after all, which is mostly what I'm about. I'll be leaving this card for the rest of you, leave me my Elusive Krasis and Tormented soul.

I'm old-school, so I'll stick w the original print. Glad to see it reprinted however. Still waiting for the infamous "RED two-drop" (Tarmogoyf) to be printed tho... C'Mon Wizards...

The beast is back! Unfortunately I doubt this will do much to reduce its value (new art + regular card frame = collector bait), but at least players will have better access to it for a little while.

I see the potential and how easily this creature can be splashed with other colors, I really do-but I still think it's slightly overrated... the reason I say that is because he isn't evasive as all. Sure he can beat face and be a huge creature in the early game, but I can think of a shit ton of cards that can make him go away just as easily as he came. He is awesome, but for a hundred dollars and up? No thank you. I still give it 4/5 though.
