Nothing like trading a blood pet for an 8/8 Akroma all for just a couple of mana. The only reason this doesn't get a higher ranking is because Wizards stopped making good cheap thrulls maybe because of this card.

I don't think they'll ever replace the old weird counters. Sure, you could replace a +2/+2 counter with a pair of +1/+1s with little change (aside from things like proliferate), but you're still going to be stuck with the +1/+0 counters, or +1/-1, or whatever. If you're going to have weird counters anyway, you might as well keep all the weird counters.

btw, i wonder when wizards decides to change the oracle of cards with +2/+2 or similar counters to get replacved by +1/+1 counters.

Yeah, this card be used in some funny ways to bring back monsters. It's not that powerful, but it is funny at times.
