I agree with madformedusa. I've been playing Magic since Ice Age, so for me a 2/2 for 2 is still good. Decent but not great creatures like him are needed for draft to be healthy. I hope to see him in the 2012 core set.

And if you have any surplus Silvercoats, they can be used as creature tokens. Just look up the Scars of Mirrodin Visual Spoiler to find out which Legendary Cat Cleric makes 2/2 white Cat tokens.

Wow they actually printed this in the SAME SET as Ajani's Pridemate? That card has an extra relevant creature type (Soldier) and a fairly decent ability... to open more than half the cards in M11 is pretty much an insult to the player... contrary to popular belief, inferior cards do NOT make players happier...

I don't know about my fellow Magic players, but I dislike cards with real life animals. Never a fan of Grizzly Bears either. I know. A silver lion does not do it for me.

In response to TheSuperbloop's comment, I think it's fine. Silvercoat LIon is fairly costed (at least it isn't a Hill Giant. So what if it doesn't have abilities? It's a common in a core set. At least the CMC is fair. In addition the art is great and the flavor text is super cool! Don't be hatin' on this. There are worse cards out there.

Dear Wizards: We do not need anotherGlory Seeker in standered. In fact, we don't need Glory seeker at all. In Standered alone, we have Ajani's Pridemate (grows with life gain), War Priest of Thune (destroys enchantments), Fledgling Griffin (can sometimes be a flyer), Knight of Cliffhaven (leveler), and Knight of the Skyward Eye (growth with green). This isn't even counting the cards that are obviously better, but not strictly better.

Seriously Wizards: You have two uncommons that are strictly better than this! How can you guys screw up so hard!

Don't do this again...

Was this reprinted just for the Ajani quote?

I'm not sure why they put this in two core sets instead of Glory Seeker. The cards are functionally identical, but doesn't a soldier represent the flavor of white better than a random lion?

A white grizzly bears isn't bad in limited. This guy is probably the non-alpha Savannah lions of the pride. Poor guy, still playable. 2.5/5

I like reading the comments of the people who don't understand the difference between a common and an uncommon card. Kinda sad that the pridemate would have been a rare back in the day~

And by like I mean HATE.
