Wait, so his music destroys creatures? Is he Justin Bieber?

The Oracle text makes it clear that:

a) The creature gains the ability permanently as long as it is on the battlefield. It loses it neither when Musician leaves play or when all Music counters are removed.
b) It is not possible to give it the ability (well, cost) twice, since these would stack.

It's not weird, it's a correct wording.

Also, pretty cool creature. The flavor may have something to do with using magical music to force the other creatures to "dance" which makes them more and more "tired" until they "fall over". Though in that case, it would have made sense to remove all music counters when Musician leaves play (and the ensnaring song ends).

Also, proliferate. Using Contagion Engine is like flooding the market with cheap pop music. :P

What's nice about the dude:
You can tap him in response to the cumulative upkeep trigger, so even if you never pay the upkeep cost, you can tap him at least once. Also, the counters including the "pay or sac" ability stay active, even once the musician is gone. Paying 1 doesn't sound much, but each time you tap him, he either acts as a stone rain, denying mana, or as a creature killer.
Not a great card, but fun in some decks.

What a way to waste a great archetype with both a terrible card design as well as art. Just how does the effect relate to someone that plays music for a living? They could have just as well named this card "Accountant". Actually, that would have made more sense, if you think about it.

The new ability is hilariously worded.
I mean, imagine if they printed a creature that already had that ability.

People, this is one of blue's kill spells.

It's kind of like how Floodgate is good, solely on the fact that it's one of blue's only damaging boardwipe.

Paying a cumulative 1 each turn to keep it doing it's thing is somewhat worth it. Also, the counters stay on and still have an effect when this dies.
