It has potential, I don't think it's too bad, just a little wonky and has really bad flavor. The way I see it, if used on an opponents creature there are better options in blue, white, or really any color. If used on your own creature it's still not the most useful but sees better opportunities.

Doran's good because his effect sticks around indefinitely, while this only works once. Plus, of course, the whole effectively 5/5 for 3 mana thing, too.

Unless a Magic card quotes Bookter T. Washington and I missed it, this is the only card that makes you think directly of Modern (post, let's say 1880) America in its flavor text.

The rest of the Poets quoted in Magic, even if they lived in later times, sound by their words to be wise enough to be very old, like Shakespeare Old. (Anyone got a timestamp on Edgar Allen Poe?)

The word "Washington" is what sticks out to me.
