Similar to Purphoros's Emissary, a good creature (at least limited) on its own (tapdown at no costs??) but the Bestow cost is way over the top...

Eh, it's not bad on its own. Bestow is okay as a lategame limited draw. 3.5.

Aggressive, on the curve, and gives a nice late game option.

The effect and a 3/3 body can be game-winning in the right situation, especially for only 4 mana. Bestow just makes it silly. Multiples bestowed upon one creature make it absolutely ridiculous, especially with an Ethereal Armor or Sphere of Safety.
"I attack with my Hopeful Eidolon, for 11 lifelinked damage. I also tap 2 of your blockers."
"Ok, I'll take it. My turn, I attack with all these soldier tokens..."
"You gotta pay 4 mana for each of those, Sphere of Safety."
"..."

Vorthos rant here. - In a good card flavor and mechanics unify to create one cohesive whole. Take Erebos's emissary for instance. It discards creature cards for some power, that Erebos, god of the dead can take advantage of. It literally plows the path for its God's coming.

But this? Heliod is represented as the most powerful God, but his flavor speaks not of power so much as scattered flavor. What can Heliod do? He can bolster his followers, he can make them vigilant, he can smite those that hurt him, he has a vast court of holy clerics he can pull out of Nyx - and he can, well, tap things when he attacks. What do all these things have in common? They're all white mechanics. That's about all.

What I would have liked to have seen is something much like Erebos - a mirror of dark and light. Maybe something like exile target creature card from your hand, tap target creature an opponent controls. and then Heliod would have {2}{W}{W} put target c... (see all)
