Using 2 cards to deal 4 to any one creature or to a player is a waste of cards. Lightning Javelin and Char are both better than this, however. And of course Bolt is always the best, but remember: this was pre-power creep. Before M10 decided Bolt is fair after all.

As always, Lightning Bolt is the obvious comparison. To me, the way I will judge burn spells overall is by "Blaze Effects": 1 mana, 1 damage, sorcery speed. Thus, I certainly agree with the overall rating at this point, somewhere between 2.5 and 3. Solid common removal, even in a Lightning Bolt world.

Im all for defending underdog cards and explaining why non-lightning bolt cards are still good, but you did the right thing for the wrong reasons. comparing this metalcrafting galvanic, you are paying a similar amount of mana without getting the extra benefit from Ornithopters, Memnites, Moxen, Lotus Petals, Sol Rings, ok some of those the average player might not have but my point is that Galvanic Blast requiring artifacts is NOT a draw back and with the right artifacts you make a deck that can race a mono red deck without artifacts.
further, when you talk about 'saving your good spells', you should build your deck so that all 60 of the cards in it are good. 4x Lightning Bolt, 4x Searing Blaze, 4x Slagstorm...first of all that makes your draws more consistent (high number of high quality cards) second, using the best quality spells you can means that each individual spell is costs less anxiety to play. it sounds like in your deck I would always be af... Don't compare this to Lightning Bolt, bolt is by far the best burn spell ever made if you're comparing mana to damage. However, this card is a LOT more valuable than most people think. It's Galvanic Blast but instead of having to have spent mana to bring out artifacts, it just costs more. You don't have to build a deck around it. And it does 4 damage, enough to kill a lot of the creatures you're going to be afraid of. Combine it with a lightning bolt and you spend 5 mana to get rid of a 7 toughness fatty. Sure, you can get rid of a 6 toughness fatty by using 2 bolts, but then you've only got 2 bolts possible left in your deck. It saves you from having to waste your better spells. 3.5/5, it's playable, but not a Legacy card.

3 extra mana for 1 damage. Bah humbug, just stick to lightning bolt. Hell, Lightning Bolt and Lava Dart if you just have to have 4 damage. Still cheaper, with that emergency flashback of the lava dart.
