Uh, that's quite the creative name. "Vigilance - gives vigilance." Wowee.

Because of this, I think Vigilance should actually be keyworded as "Eternal Warrior." Trample should be Primal Frenzy; First Strike should be Lance. And of course, who could deny the awesome might of the Mountain Goat, with its awe-inspiring Burrowing powers. That's right, a burrowing mountain goat.

Tremble in fear.

Lol 'vigilance' I don't ever see being in any way a bad idea for a card to give a creature; I see it as more good for duel color decks that use white, cause, yeah aint alot of white creatures worth putting this on, BUT plenty of other creatures it'd be worth putting on :D

Why is this card rated so badly? Vigilance is my second favourite ability, after trample, and its very useful to be able to attack with something like a 6/6 and then still be able to block with it on my next turn. And for one mana, it's a steal! Yeah, you could "just Naturalize it", but still its only ONE. FRIGGIN. MANA.

It might not be a great card, but it earns bonus points for just being so simple. You want to give a creature vigilance? Well then stick vigilance on it then.

Oh, and I've just noticed that the guy in the picture is holding a lance... I guess that's what gives him his Vigi-lance...

Aaron’s Random Card Comment of the Day #50, 1/3/11

This is kind of a funny card in that it shares a name with the ability it grants what it enchants. There are a few such examples of cards like these:

vigilance -> Vigilance
lifelink -> Lifelink
flying -> Flight (close enough)

Of course, there are more single keywords granted by Auras that do not share a name with them:

trample -> Primal Frenzy
first strike -> Lance, Reflexes
double strike -> Battle Mastery
defender -> Guard Duty
swampwalk -> Leshrac's Rite
mountainwalk -> Burrowing
forestwalk -> Dryad's Favor
islandwalk -> Fishliver Oil

Maybe I’m forgetting some, but in general we don’t match the name to the ability. In fact, check out this one from Legen... (see all)

@Shadoflaam:

It's a formatting error on Gatherer, because Aaron Forsythe's comment gets cut off by the "(see all)" option while in the middle of italics tags. If we were to bomb his comment until it got pushed off the Popular Comments section, nothing would be italicized anymore. If you don't believe me, go to a different page in the Popular Comments section, and suddenly all the Recent Comments will no longer be italicized. Wacky, I know.

@ScepterofEternities: Wait, why would you want to give anyone a Scorching Spear? It's too horrible even for the lowest of peasants.

This card is really awful. It's weak because it's a regular aura, leading to a potential 2-1 loss, the ability it grants is of marginal importance, and the card is generally boring overall. I would have expected a card like this back in the "old" days, but not anymore.
