What a great mechanic. Something that gets stronger every time it "dies", like Doomsday or a Saiyan.
I hope it gets revisited, maybe in green.

@PI314r: That's how the card would have worked, but it doesn't anymore. Read the oracle wording. it states,
Pay 1 for each +1/+1 counter on Skeleton Scavengers: Regenerate Skeleton Scavengers. When it regenerates this way, put a +1/+1 counter on it.

Also, here's some comments in the FAQ for Stronghold regarding this card.

* Playing Skeleton Scavengers's ability does not put a +1/+1 counter on it right away. Rather, it creates a regeneration shield. If Skeleton Scavengers would be destroyed that turn, instead it uses that shield and regenerates. When that happens, its delayed triggered ability triggers. Only when it resolves is a +1/+1 counter put on Skeleton Scavengers.

* Each instance of the delayed triggered ability is correlated to a specific regeneration shield, and no others. Playing the ability multiple times won't cause multiple +1/+1 counters to be put on Skeleton Scavengers the next time it regenerates.

* The cost to play Skeleton Scavenger's activa... (see all)

This + Mark of Sakiko + trample (you already have green in the deck, it should be easy) = Just pay the blocking creatures toughness if it kill the skeletons.

I love this card, but it's just too underpowered. Also, it's very unclear to some and there are no rules to clarify. My friend using my deck kept just pumping all his mana into this guy and thought he would get +1/+1 counters for each one.

@keegan: No where in the rule books (MagicCompRules_20100423.pdf and EN_Magic_Basic_Rulebook_20090710.pdf) does it state that a regeneration shield should always be followed by a death effect on the stack. The basic rule book even implies it is possible to create a regeneration shield prior to a death effect is put on the stack. Thus, one is allowed to activate the regenerate ability when ever one pleases, but the regeneration shields simply are never used within the turn. As the +1/+1 token is part of the activated ability, and not of the regeneration shield resolvement, they are counted!

So, for example: one is allowed to regenerate this creature in the end phase of your oppenent while it still has summoning sickness. if you would have 3 mana (asuming 1 counters still), one can regenerate twice, one costing 1 mana, resulting in two counters, and the second time costing 2 mana, resulting in 3 counters.

(activating it twice for the same mana at interupt speed does not work, because ... (see all)

Even if they can't pump freely with ease anymore, the scavengers are still mad cool. They even seem to be scavenging heads and body parts! (Check the bird-headed fella in the back!)
