Pelakka Wurm is much better for securing a victory. Same fatty with trample but you get that juicy 7 life and it replaces itself with a card when it dies. This is better if your about to lose, and they don't have a removal card.

I liked this card ever since I saw the spoilers for M13. A wurm with the head of Triceratops? Freakin' awesome!

This worm is brought to you by the letter "E", and by the number "7!"

Ruling question:

I'm 90% sure of the answer to this question, as the rulings window makes clear that damage being dealt to wurm and player simultaneously cannot prevent the wurm's ability to maintain the life total despite the damage dealt, however it describes a single spell doing this, and so I want to certain.

Suppose my opponent is at 7 life and has an Elderscale Wurm out, and I have a Deadly Recluse (1/2 Deathtouch) and a Ghoultree (10/10).

I miracle a Revenge of the Hunted and cast it on my Deadly Recluse, making it a 7/8 deathtouch trample which must be blocked by all creatures able to do so, and then I attack with both of my creatures. My opponent is forced to block the Deadly Recluse with his Elderscale Wurm, which leaves the Ghoultree unblocked. My Deadly Recluse destroys his Elderscale ... (see all)

Most of these effects fail to tiny life loss pings. This one technically does, but if you have an instant that gains you life and use it in response to your opponent doing the lethal damage you can waste a lot of their time and resources. Nourish suddenly doesn't look so bad!

Of course, if you're a REAL boss you'll try and get back above seven life with Tavern Swindler.

So he's basically sort of a Worship stuck on a Wurm body?

@azure_drake222222: in addition, shroud and hexproof do not an invincible creature make - Wrath of God anyone.

Throw in Indestructible, and you're getting closer, but even then there are targetless sacrifice effects and Final Judgment.

I reported a typo in the rulings several times, but no one ever fixed that. It's: "a creature with lifelink", not: "a creature will lifelink".

The protective aspect is quite nice, but I run it in a Kruphix, God of Horizons EDH deck with Hurricane, Squall Line, and tutors! Usually insta-wins as long as I have a counterspell in hand. Also, love that jungle-y art.
