This is given in the red deck in Duels of the Planeswalkers, and I will freely admit that there are better cards, but really, in the late game when playing red, you probably have nothing to do with all the mana on your table. This is a reusable Lava Axe. It's more expensive, sure, but this card has won games for me, believe it or not. Maybe not quite solid, but deserving of a mention. 3/5.

I always wanted to use this guy's ability. Maybe something could be done with heartstone but I doubt it.

if you're playing red and you actually have enough mana lying around the place to use this ability, you're doing something wrong

If you really want to use this guy to his full potential and you happen to be running both blue and red, you might consider running some training grounds.

With a Lava Axe ability, this card can be good with unused mana, but for what it does and its cost, I wouldn't like to be spending that much mana just for 5 damage. Sure, it can win some games, but I've learned that just because a card wins some games doesn't mean you should play it.
