The last line of the fourth edition rulebook was "Our sincerest apologies to anyone who has ever been killed by an ornithopter".
A friend of mine used to do that all the time. It got to the point where folks would let his Colossus of Sardia live, just to shatter his 'thopters.

Chump-blocker, combo component, ninja-delivery service, free creature to be loaded up with auras and equipment, the humble 'thopter fills any role you might have for a zero-cost creature.

Although Urza made the ornithopter judging from the flavor text, this 4/5 rated gem was clearly not good enough for his personally named block of cards.
