I love the simple, colorful spells like these with drawbacks, because they help get new players from the rudimentary stage to the more nuanced stage of playing Magic, and it's always fun to see the lightbulb go on. I suggested a friend put this very card in a nuts-and-bolts mono-black deck he was building. After about five minutes of hesitant discussion, he says "but then again...the cards I end up drawing have a really high chance of dealing more than 2 damage, or saving me over 2 damage in the future, don't they?"

Kind of a basic grasp on it, but I couldn't have been more proud. You learned your first lesson in card advantage, amigo!

Add underworld dreams, and all new cards with effects like it. Suddenly this card can start doing allot of damage for only 2 black mana. Not to mention its loss of life so really hard to prevent that 2 damage.

I love it when I see a simple, core staple potential card. This card should have been in Alpha.
