Beyond it's usual anti-draw tempo effect, this should combo really well with the milling in Jace's deck if you feel the need to get rid of something particularly threatening, like an Acidic Slime, or maybe even Vraska herself.

Remember that if you counter an instant or sorcery spell with this, it'll be in the perfect position for you to steal it with Jace's Mindseeker. Milling for 5 and then stealing a Grisly Spectacle, killing a creature, and milling for more is the sort of thing that's going to make for some really memorable games.

I've got to agree with the others here though, this artwork doesn't feel quite right for Jace. The old puzzle-piece artwork would have gone really well with Jace's flavourtext there.

Strictly more frustrating than Counterspell. Just the way I like it!

I've recently developed a thing for concept decks. Life, Death, Hate, Inspiration.... It's more about the feeling the deck evokes than the actual cards themselves. This, along with Remand, Isochron Scepter, Chittering Rats and Boomerang are the core of my latest deck based around the concept of Inertia. The goal... for it to always be turn 1 for the opponent.

I'm bringing painkillers to my next game night for the inevitable punch to the face.

This is proof that Homelands did have good cards despite what some people would say.

Now if only they'll reprint this in Modern...

To be honest, I think it's too powerful for Modern.

Oh wow, very strange art for Guay. I'm so used to the brain puzzle art. Still cool. Odd proportions.

"They had to stick with this art?" —Syrtees

Wow, I'm surprised this comment is currently actually rated five stars. When I went to the comment section for this
card, I actually expected the top comment to be from one of the Rebecca Guay fanboys, praising the original Mirage
     artwork
.

Not necessarily. We also do have Remand in Modern, which is quite similar:
It gives basically the same effect, yet also lets both sides draw a card.
(I love that we got a reprint of it in this very Duel Deck, by the way.
That alone almost makes it worth the purchase, considering the steep price for the original Ravnica print.)

Honestly, I don't even think having good old Counterspell in Modern would have much of an impact either.

So, which do you think is better in most situations? Remand or Memory Lapse?

I hope to never see this card in modern, as I don't want to play against remands 5-8 (with snapcaster mage being 9-12)...

I have always been a fan of Memory Lapse. And about 15 years ago, a lot of people thought that Memory Lapse was a weak Counterspell. I remember InQuest Magazine rated Memory Lapse a two star card. But besides being splashable, its ability to mess with tempo has always been a great advantage, and people were comboing Millstone with Memory Lapse ages ago. I'd love to see Memory Lapse reprinted in a new expansion. Make it uncommon. But it's not too powerful to come back.
