This card is great with lots of creatures (i.e. deathtouch) including the aforementioned Nicol Bolas. Also, unlike other creature enchantments where you lose 2 cards if the creature dies, at least you can sac this one for a point. Not much, but can be useful.

I wouldn't say this is strictly better. Art aside the fact you can sac this isn't necessarily a good thing. For example if the creature is stolen. It could be good to get rid of it but what if you need it and were perhaps willing to sacrifice life points or a creature to keep it on the field? You no longer have a choice.
Also what if its in your graveyard. There are ways to pull things out of an opponents graveyard like nomad mythmaker

I run these in a deck full of deathtouchers. Works with many other effects as well. Awesome shit for 2CMC. 5.

Awesome card. I built a whole deck around this. Deathtouchers, damage-player effects like Whirling Dervish, etc. etc. etc. Works great with Isochron Scepter and Fatal Blow too.
