when it was printed, you could have any number of any card in the deck.
so you could just run, 20 lords, 20 of merfolk of the pearl trident and 20 black lotus.
not quite as fast as 20 lightning bolt, 20 black lotus and 20 ancestral recall, but what can you do?

Still a force to be reckoned with, perhaps moreso with all the different merfolk out there now. Easily my favorite of the oldschool tribal lords. Blue has a lot of ways to turn other people's lands into islands. Do that, and play only Merfolk or use an enchantment like Xenograft or Unnatural Selection and it might as well say "your creatures are unblockable." Draw cards with Scroll Thief or with Coastal Piracy to cantrip every time you hit 'em with anything.
